Esther Vilar is a German-Argentinian writer, sociologist, psychologist, and doctor. Before dedicating herself to writing, she studied medicine at the University of Buenos Aires and, in 1960, was awarded a scholarship to continue her studies in the Federal Republic of Germany. A year later, Esther married German author Klaus Wagn, a union that ended in divorce. After this, the author would say: «I didn't break up with the man, just with marriage as an institution».
She is the author of the trilogy The Tamed Man (1971), The Polygamous Man (1976) and Model for a New Machismo (1977), as well as the essays The Old (1981), The Charm of Stupidity (1987) and Forbidden to Think (1998).
