Florence Scovel Shinn
Florence Scovel Shinn (Camden, New Jersey, 1871 – New York, 1940) was an American artist, illustrator, and writer, prominent in the New Thought movement. After starting her career as an illustrator in publications like Harper’s, she became a spiritual teacher and author of metaphysical works that combine Christian teachings with principles of affirmation and positive thinking.
Among her most influential works are The Game of Life and How to Play It (1925), Your Word is Your Wand (1928), and The Secret Door to Success (1940). Also published posthumously were The Power of the Spoken Word (1945) and The Magic Path of Intuition (2013). Her books, focused on spirituality and personal development, continue to be references in the fields of self-help and metaphysics.
