Gonzalo Blumel
Gonzalo Fernando Blumel Mac-Iver (Talca, Chile, May 17, 1978) is a Chilean civil environmental engineer, politician, and writer, member of the Political Evolution party (Evópoli). During the second administration of President Sebastián Piñera, he served as the Minister Secretary General of the Presidency and later as the Minister of the Interior and Public Security, positions he held from March 11, 2018, to July 28, 2020.
In his book The Long Return (2023), published by Ediciones UC, Blumel recounts his experience as a minister during the social outbreak of 2019 and the pandemic, offering an insider's view of the most complex moments in recent Chilean history. Currently, he is part of the board of directors of the Horizontal study center, where he collaborates on projects related to public policy and social development.
