Jeannette Von Wolfersdorff
Jeannette von Wolfersdorff, born as Sonia Jeannette Schiess in Aachen, Germany, on January 15, 1976, is a Chilean-German economist and activist known for her work in promoting fiscal transparency and sustainability in Chile. She arrived in the country in 2002 and, after marrying Christoph Schiess, president of the Tánica holding, settled in Santiago.
She began her professional career in the financial sector, working at DEG, the German government's investment bank. In Chile, she participated in infrastructure projects, including the construction of a hotel on Easter Island and the Tánica building, the first in Chile to receive LEED Gold certification.
In 2015, she co-founded the Fiscal Expenditure Observatory, a civil society initiative that uses data analysis to monitor the use of public resources and promote transparency. Her work in this area led her to chair the Ministerial Advisory Commission for Transparency, Quality, and the Impact of Public Spending in 2020.
In 2017, she made history by becoming the first woman to join the board of the Santiago Stock Exchange, where she promoted initiatives in sustainability and corporate governance.
In 2022, she published her book Capitalism – A Story About Innovation, Investments, and Being Human, where she critically analyzes the current economic system and proposes a more humane and sustainable approach.
Currently, von Wolfersdorff is a member of the Autonomous Fiscal Council, an entity responsible for contributing to the responsible management of the Central Government's fiscal policy.
Her interdisciplinary approach and commitment to transparency and sustainability have established her as an influential figure in the public and economic sphere of Chile.
