Juan Miralles Ostos
Juan Miralles Ostos (Tampico, Mexico, 1930 – Mexico City, 2011) was a Mexican diplomat and historian, known for his studies on the conquest of Mexico. After graduating in Political and Social Sciences from UNAM, he joined the diplomatic service in 1955, holding various positions, including ambassador to Ecuador. Upon retirement, he fully dedicated himself to historical research, collaborating with media outlets and publishing essays focused on key figures of Mexican history.
Among his most notable works are Hernán Cortés: inventor of Mexico (2001), La Malinche: root of Mexico (2004), And Bernal lied (2008) and The five routes of Hernán Cortés. Additionally, he edited and prefaced classic texts such as Chronicle of New Spain by Francisco Cervantes de Salazar and History of the conquest of Mexico by Francisco López de Gómara. His approach combines academic rigor with an accessible narrative, significantly contributing to the genre of historical and biographical essay in Spanish language.
