Luis Barrales
Luis Barrales (Laja, 1978) is an actor graduated from the University of Arts and Social Sciences, ARCIS (2004), and a playwright, director, and screenwriter. Among his works, the following stand out: Nosiotros [sic] (The Tragedy of a Boy without Thumbs) (2003), Dirty Nails (2003), Santiago Flayte (2004), HP (Hans Pozo) (2007), The Sow (2008; directed by himself), Spider Girls (2008; later made into a movie), Crow's Feet (2009), The Bad Class (2009), Broken (2009; adaptation of A Lumpen Novella by Roberto Bolaño), Counterfeit Shakespeare (2011), Allende, September Night (2013) and Xuárez (2015; premiered under the direction of Manuela Infante), among others. From these works, Dirty Nails is published in the anthology Contemporary Chilean Playwriting: 7 Authors, edited by Ramón Griffero (Havana: Casa de las Américas, 2007), and HP, doubly, in the Anthology of Contemporary Chilean Theater, edited by María de la Luz Hurtado (Havana: Casa de las Américas, 2008), and in the journal Notes (130 [2008]: 67-82). In 2009, the Government of Chile commissioned a group of academics (coordinated by Hurtado and Mauricio Barría), to prepare an anthology ⎯Bicentennial project⎯ with the most outstanding works of the 20th century Chilean. In vol. 4, dedicated to the post-dictatorship, HP (Hans Pozo) was one of the chosen ones. In turn, a first volume of his collected works is published in 2015 under the title Selected Works I (Santiago: J Saez/ Eloy).
