Marc Marginedas

Marc Marginedas Izquierdo (Barcelona, 1967) is a Spanish journalist with a distinguished career as a war correspondent for El Periódico de Catalunya. He holds a degree in Information Sciences from the University of Navarra, began his professional career in 1990, and has covered some of the most significant conflicts of recent decades, including the wars in Algeria, Chechnya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and the Arab revolutions.

In 2013, he was kidnapped in Syria while covering the civil war. He was held captive for six months, along with journalists Javier Espinosa and Ricardo García Vilanova. After his release, Marginedas continued his reporting work and in 2014 received the Cirilo Rodríguez Award, which recognizes the work of Spanish correspondents and special envoys abroad.

In 2019, he was awarded the Luka Brajnovic Award from the University of Navarra, which honors communicators for their defense of human values and the dignity of people.

In his book Russia Against the World (2025), Marginedas offers an exhaustive analysis of Vladimir Putin's regime, based on his experience as a correspondent in Moscow and interviews with firsthand sources.
