Nello Scavo
Nello Scavo (Catania, 1972) is an outstanding Italian journalist and writer, known for his investigations in conflict zones and his focus on issues such as migration, organized crime, and human rights. Since 2001, he has worked as a correspondent for the newspaper Avvenire, covering events in regions like the Balkans, the Horn of Africa, the Maghreb, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. In 2017, he infiltrated a clandestine prison of Libyan traffickers in Zuara, exposing the conditions of slavery and torture of migrants.
Throughout his career, Scavo has been awarded several prizes, including the Mario Francese Award for journalism in 2020, the Buone Notizie Award in 2023, and the Biagio Agnes Award in 2024. His investigations have been cited by international media such as The New York Times, El País, Le Monde, and the BBC.
He is the author of several books, including La lista de Bergoglio, which documents how Pope Francis saved people persecuted during the Argentine dictatorship, and Kiev, a narrative about the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. His works have been translated into more than 70 languages.
