Paul Fussell
United States, 1924. Historian, writer, and professor of literature at the University of Pennsylvania, he was marked by his experiences at nineteen as an infantry officer in France in 1945. Since then, he has sought to demystify the romanticism of battle by studying in depth the two world wars in his publications, studies that have earned him the National Book Award for Arts and Letters or the National Book Critics Circle Award for Criticism.
