Peter Navarro
Peter Navarro (born July 15, 1949 in Cambridge, Massachusetts) is an American economist and author known for his critical stance towards China and his influence on trade policies during the Donald Trump administration. He earned his bachelor's degree from Tufts University in 1972, served in the Peace Corps in Thailand, and then completed a master's at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 1979. In 1986, he earned his PhD in economics from Harvard University.
Navarro began his academic career as a professor at the University of California, Irvine, where he specialized in economics and public policy. His interest in the economic relations between the United States and China led him to write several books, with The Coming China Wars (2006) and Death by China: Confronting the Dragon – A Global Call to Action (2011) being the most notable. In Death by China, co-written with Greg Autry, Navarro argues that China's trade practices, such as currency manipulation and export subsidies, have severely harmed the American manufacturing industry.
During the presidency of Donald Trump, Navarro played a key role as a senior advisor on trade policies, promoting a protectionist agenda that included imposing high tariffs on Chinese products.
