Roberto Canessa
Roberto Jorge Canessa Urta (Montevideo, Uruguay, 1953) is a cardiologist, speaker, and Uruguayan rugby player, mainly known for being one of the survivors of the Andes crash that occurred on October 13, 1972. After the Andes crash, he finished his medical studies and became a prominent figure in Uruguay. He is currently the Director of the Cardiac Ultrasound and Prenatal Diagnosis of Congenital Heart Diseases Department at the Italian Hospital of Montevideo and is part of the Cardiac Transplant team. He has been awarded the National Medicine Prize three times. He also gives motivational talks.
