William Kamkwamba
William Kamkwamba, born on August 5, 1987 in Kasungu, Malawi, is an innovator, engineer, and author known for his ingenuity and determination. At the age of 14, in 2002, he built a windmill using recycled materials, such as eucalyptus wood, bicycle parts, and other items collected from a local landfill, to provide electricity to his family's home in Wimbe, a village near Kasungu.

His story of overcoming and creativity is captured in his autobiography "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" (2009), co-written with Bryan Mealer. This book inspired the eponymous 2019 film, directed and starred by Chiwetel Ejiofor. Kamkwamba's work falls within the genre of biographical and technological innovation literature, highlighting his ability to face adversity and promote sustainable development in rural communities.
