William Strauss
William Strauss was an American writer, historian, and playwright, known for developing, along with Neil Howe, the generational theory of Strauss–Howe. This theory suggests that history moves in cycles of about 80 years, divided into four "turnings" that repeat in generational patterns. Strauss and Howe founded the consultancy LifeCourse Associates, specializing in generational analysis and social trends. Additionally, Strauss co-founded the satirical group Capitol Steps, combining his interest in politics and the performing arts.

Among his most notable works are Generations: The History of America's Future, 1584 to 2069 (1991), 13th Gen: Abort, Retry, Ignore, Fail? (1993), The Fourth Turning: An American Prophecy (1997), translated into Spanish as El Cuarto Giro (2024), and Millennials Rising: The Next Great Generation (2000). These works, in the genre of historical and sociological essay, have been influential in the analysis of generational patterns and their impact on American society.
