Susan Briscoe is one of the leading experts in sashiko, the traditional Japanese sewing technique. She started sewing sashiko in 2000, after returning from a trip to the Japanese city where she worked as an assistant English teacher (Yuza-machi, Yamagata Prefecture). Since then, she has studied and researched sashiko, taught sashiko around the world, organized sashiko exhibitions, and closely collaborated with the Yuza Sashiko Guild, repeatedly bringing it to teach in the United Kingdom. She has also specialized in kogin, boro, and patchwork and has written more than a dozen books on these subjects.
