Synopsis "Adeline's Reef"

Adeline is a sea turtle who lives in the lovely blue waters of the Caribbean Sea near a colorful coral reef. Swimming through all the nooks and crannies of the reef are many sea creatures, including fish, lobsters, sponges, rays, crabs, and eels. The reef not only shelters these animals, but it also protects the shorelines from being washed away during storms. In addition, it generates almost half of the oxygen on the planet and even provides material that scientists use to create life-saving medications. But over the past few years, Adeline has noticed changes taking place on her reef that worry her. Some of the coral is losing its color, showing signs of disease, and crumbling to pieces, due in large part to climate change, pollution, and huge ships dragging heavy equipment on the ocean bottom.

Eventually the coral will start dying and the fish that it shelters will leave. When the ocean bottom starts looking more like a boneyard than an underwater garden, it will damage the fishing industry, the tourism industry, the stability of our coastlines, and the very health of the planet. In this water color style children's book, Adeline leads readers through a tour of her home and shares actions everyone can take to help the environment.

This book is written and illustrated by certified Reef Renewal SCUBA divers and members of The Aquarium Divers For Coral Society (ADFC). All proceeds from the sales of this book will be donated to ADFC and support their mission to increase restoration, preservation, and education efforts to stabilize coral reef ecosystems.
