Juli 1106), genannt Adolf I. de Monte, gilt als Begrnder der Grafschaft Berg. Der erste direkte Nachweis seiner Existenz stammt aus einer Urkunde aus dem Jahr 1093 fr das Kloster Werden. Dort wird ein unmndiger Vogt, der im Knabenalter war, wie folgt beschrieben: Adolfus, qui tunc temporis puer erat. In dieser Urkunde wird er als unmndig ausgewiesen, kurze Zeit spter tritt er jedoch selbststndig handelnd auf. Da das frnkische Mndigkeitsalter damals bei fnfzehn Jahren lag, muss Adolf puer ( der unmndige Adolf ) zwischen 1078 und 1080 geboren worden sein.
