Synopsis "Briefe 1798 (in German)"

Der vorliegende Band umfasst alle derzeit bekannten Briefe Goethes aus dem Jahr 1798. Davon stammen 253 aus seiner persönlichen Korrespondenz und sind an insgesamt 55 Adressaten gerichtet, darunter Friedrich Schiller, Christiane Vulpius, Johann Heinrich Meyer, Johann Friedrich Cotta, Carl Ludwig von Knebel, Wilhelm von Humboldt und August Wilhelm Schlegel. Hinzu kommen 49 amtliche Schreiben und 39 zusätzlich überlieferte Konzepte. Nachgewiesen werden au erdem 142 erschlossene Briefe. 1798 endet der langjährige Briefwechsel mit Johann Christian Kestner. Für einige Adressaten sind nur aus diesem Jahr Briefe überliefert, so an Paul Wolfgang Merkel oder Johann Gottfried Schweighäuser. Zugleich beginnen neue Korrespondenzen, wie etwa mit Johannes Daniel Falk, Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling und Ludwig Tieck. Thematische Schwerpunkte der Briefe liegen in Goethes Austausch mit Schiller, unter anderem dokumentiert durch seine Anteilnahme an Schillers "Wallenstein", bei der Veröffentlichung der mit Johann Heinrich Meyer erarbeiteten Kunstzeitschrift "Propyläen" sowie beim Erwerb des Lehn- und Freigutes in Oberro la.
