Synopsis "Bug-Jargal (in French)"

Tout au long de Bug-Jargal c'est le capitaine Léopold d'Auverney qui raconte l'histoire qu'il a lui-même vécue. L'histoire se passe dans la colonie française de Saint-Domingue où l'oncle de Léopold possède une plantation. Léopold est amoureux de la fille de son oncle, Marie, avec qui il doit se marier. Un jour Léopold se lie d'amitié avec l'un des esclaves et lui évite la mort à plusieurs reprises. Mais cet esclave, nommé Pierrot ou Bug Jargal, est aussi amoureux de Marie. Le soir de leur mariage, une révolte se déclenche parmi les esclaves et Marie est enlevée par Bug Jargal. Léopold est retenu prisonnier par un autre chef noir et doit mourir.
