Synopsis "Claudius Bombarnac (in French)"

Claudius Bombarnac est un roman de Jules Verne publié quasi simultanément en feuilleton dans Le Soleil et en volume par l'éditeur Hetzel à l'automne 1892. Il conte à la première personne le voyage du personnage éponyme, reporter au XXe siècle originaire de Bordeaux, à bord du train Trans-Asiatique qui relie la Géorgie à Pékin et connaîtra tous les épisodes du roman d'aventures ferroviaires digne de ce nom, attaque de bandits, menace de chute dans un ravin, wagon spécial gardé par des troupes et transportant la mystérieuse dépouille d'un grand mandarin, etc. Ce récit rocambolesque est aussi une collection de personnages hauts en couleur comme le Baron Weissschnitzerdörfer, un Allemand tentant de battre le record du tour du monde, en 39 jours (il le bouclera en fait en 187 jours, n'égalant même pas Philéas Fogg) ou encore Kinko, un Roumain voyageant clandestinement dans une caisse. Parmi eux, Claudius espère trouver son héros, qui fera de son histoire autre chose qu'un récit de voyage ennuyeux. Il ne sera pas déçu et le lecteur non plus.
