Designated Hitter - Henry B Zimmer

What if the impossible dream of a lifetime suddenly became possible?

At forty-seven, Jack is a lifelong baseball enthusiast whose chance to play professional ball should have disappeared decades ago. Then cataract surgery gives him something no one expected-extraordinary vision that allows him to see a baseball with almost unbelievable clarity.

What begins as an improbable experiment leads Jack to the Seattle Mariners and into a major-league season unlike any other. Facing pitchers half his age, skeptical teammates, relentless media attention, and the pressures of becoming an overnight sensation, Jack discovers that seeing the ball may be the easiest part of his remarkable second chance.

Along the way, there are records to chase, a pennant race to survive, a World Series to reach-and an unexpected romance that proves baseball isn’t the only game capable of changing his life.

Designated Hitter is a warm, humorous baseball novel about second chances, impossible dreams, love, aging, and what can happen when life gives you one last pitch to hit out of the park.
