Martin Popoff is an influential Canadian music journalist and writer, born on April 28, 1963 in Castlegar, British Columbia. Recognized as one of the most prolific chroniclers of heavy metal, he has written over 100 books and approximately 7,900 record reviews, covering genres such as hard rock, classic rock, and punk. His work ranges from biographies of iconic bands to music collecting guides

Popoff co-founded and was the editor-in-chief of Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles magazine, one of Canada's most prominent metal publications. Additionally, he has collaborated with media such as Guitar World, Revolver, Goldmine, Record Collector, bravewords.com, lollipop.com, and hardradio.com, and has worked on award-winning documentaries about Rush and ZZ Top

Among his most notable books are The Collector’s Guide to Heavy Metal (in its 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s editions), Anthem: Rush in the '70s, AC/DC at 50, Judas Priest: Album by Album, and The Who & Quadrophenia. His detailed style and focus on rock history have established him as a key figure in the documentation and critique of heavy metal

Currently, Popoff resides in Toronto, Ontario, and continues to be an authoritative voice in music criticism and rock-specialized literature
