From cryptic spells to satirical light, To wounds laid bare in the quiet night. Each verse reaches past the pain, To prove that magic can remain. For even locked within a cell, A soul can wander, wish, rebel. And gather sparks from dark and dust, To build a world of mind and trust. A testament in rhyme and fire, That art survives, That hearts aspire. That even caged the human mind, Can cast its chains and rise unconfined.

Written by Jason Bales while serving life without parole in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, these poems are the voice he refuses to let the system silence. From a cell meant to break the spirit, he writes instead to rise above it, turning confinement into creation and proving that even in the darkest place, the mind can still find light.
