Synopsis "L'événement (in French)"

Depuis des annees, je tourne autour de cet evenement de ma vie. Lire dans un roman le recit dun avortement me plonge dans un saisissement sans images ni pensees, comme si les mots se changeaient instantanement en sensation violente. De la meme façon, entendre par hasard La javanaise, Jai la memoire qui flanche, nimporte quelle chanson qui ma accompagnee durant cette periode, me bouleverse.

Annie Ernaux was born in 1940 in the French region of Normandy. She grew up in the small town of Yvetot and studied literature at the University of Rouen. A teacher of that subject in high schools in Annecy and the Parisian suburbs, she currently lives near the French capital and works at the Centre National d’Enseignement par Correspondance. At Tusquets Editores we have published Pure Passion, Shame, The Event, and The Place (Renaudot Prize, 1984). In 2019, she received the Formentor Prize for her body of work.
