Synopsis "La Tempesta (in Italian)"

La tempesta (The Tempest) è una commedia in cinque atti scritta da William Shakespeare tra il 1610 e il 1611. Il dramma, ambientato su di un'isola imprecisata del Mediterraneo, racconta la vicenda dell'esiliato Prospero, il vero duca di Milano, che trama per riportare sua figlia Miranda al posto che le spetta, utilizzando illusioni e manipolazioni magiche. Mentre suo fratello Antonio e il suo complice, il Re di Napoli Alonso, stanno navigando sul mare di ritorno da Cartagine, il mago invoca una tempesta che rovescia gli incolumi passeggeri sull'isola. Attraverso la magia e con l'aiuto del suo servo Ariel, uno spirito dell'aria, Prospero riesce a rivelare la natura bassa di Antonio, a riscattare il Re e a far innamorare e sposare sua figlia con il principe di Napoli, Ferdinando. La narrazione è tutta incentrata sulla figura di Prospero il quale, con la sua arte, tesse trame con cui costringere gli altri personaggi a muoversi secondo il proprio volere. È tradizionalmente ritenuta la penultima opera di William Shakespeare - l'ultima interamente sua - ed è considerata da molti il lavoro che segnò l'addio alle scene del celebre drammaturgo.

William Shakespeare (Stratford-upon-Avon, c. April 23, 1564jul. - Ibid., April 23/May 3, 1616) was an English playwright, poet, and actor. Often known as the Bard of Avon (or simply the Bard), he is considered the most important writer in the English language and one of the most famous in world literature.

According to the Encyclopædia Britannica, "Shakespeare is generally acknowledged as the greatest of all time writers, a unique figure in the history of literature. The fame of other poets, such as Homer and Dante Alighieri, or novelists such as Leo Tolstoy or Charles Dickens, has transcended national barriers, but none has achieved the reputation of Shakespeare, whose works today are read and performed more frequently and in more countries than ever. The prophecy of one of his great contemporaries, Ben Jonson, has thus been fulfilled: 'Shakespeare does not belong to one age but to eternity'".

Among his most notable works are Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. His ability to portray the complexities of human nature, along with his mastery in the use of verse and language, has made him a timeless figure.
