Synopsis "Lectures on Landscape"

These Lectures on Landscape were given at Oxford on January 20, February 9, and February 23, 1871. They were not public Lectures, like Professor Ruskin's other courses, but addressed only to undergraduates who had joined his class. They were illustrated by pictures from his collection, of which several are here reproduced, and by others which may be seen in the Oxford University Galleries or in the Ruskin Drawing School.

John Ruskin (London, February 8, 1819 - Coniston, January 20, 1900) was an influential writer, art critic, and British social reformer of the 19th century. His work covers a wide range of subjects, including art, architecture, and political economy.

Among his most notable works are "Modern Painters" (1843-1860), a defense of contemporary landscape painting; "The Seven Lamps of Architecture" (1849), where he establishes fundamental principles of architecture; and "The Stones of Venice" (1851-1853), a deep analysis of Venetian architecture. Additionally, "Sesame and Lilies" (1865) and "The Bible of Amiens" (1880-1885) reflect his interest in literature and history.
