Louisa May Alcott, basándose en sus propias experiencias vividas durante la época de su niñez, en los turbulentos tiempos de la Guerra Civil estadounidense (la Guerra de Secesión), junto a sus tres hermanas en Concord, Massachusetts, publicó su obra maestra y autobiográfica Mujercitas (Little Women or Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy), un libro que estaba dirigido especialmente al público joven femenino. Así pues, resultó un libro que pretende transmitir los valores y las virtudes que la autora deseaba inculcar en la juventud de su tiempo, a fin de conseguir hombres y mujeres capaces de desafiar los problemas que deberán afrontar en su paso por el imperfecto mundo que les ha tocado vivir. Un auténtico manual de valores para todos aquellos que sepan apreciarlos. La obra supuso una auténtica revolución en todo lo referente a la presentación de los personajes femeninos en la literatura de su tiempo, rompiendo con multitud de estereotipos y normas sociales establecidas.

Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, and after spending some time in Boston, died in Concord, Massachusetts.

The energy and independent spirit she had in her childhood stayed with her throughout her life and led her to take on various jobs to financially support her family. In 1854, she published her first book, Flower Fables, followed by more than thirty novels and story collections. However, her name would always be linked to Little Women, a novel she wrote between May and July 1868 at the request of her publishers.
