Lawrence G. Lovasik (Pennsylvania, 1913-1986), son of Slovak parents and the eldest of eight siblings, was ordained a priest in 1938. After completing his studies in Rome and engaging in missionary work in coal and steel industrial areas in the United States, he founded in 1955 the congregation of the Sisters of the Divine Spirit. He dedicated most of his life to preaching spiritual retreats. He is the author of numerous books, particularly delving into the need for prayer and the Eucharist, and the transformative power of grace.
