Shams, an elderly artist, lost the hand he uses for drawing in the explosion that targeted the convoy of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in 2005, leading to his assassination. As a child, he had lived in Cuba. As a teenager, he lived with his mother in her homeland of Lebanon, and then travelled to several countries, including Paris and Canada, before returning to Beirut. He sits daily in a café in the heart of Beirut, contemplating life with its details, recalling his numerous stories intertwined with the history of his country. Through stories about himself and others, he provides us with his vision of life, death, exile, violence, war, and the developments of the city he experienced politically, historically, architecturally, and artistically...
