Wren Calder is a wildlife photographer from Brooklyn with a simple assignment: hike into Washington's Cascade Mountains, photograph an osprey colony, hike out. But when she loses the trail and a brutal storm rolls in, the forest becomes a killing floor.

She should have died that night.

Instead, she wakes up in a cabin that doesn't exist on any map, wrapped in animal furs, saved by a man who refuses to speak and refuses to let her leave.

His name is Kael. He hasn't seen another human being in ten years. And he has no intention of giving her back.

The door is barred from the outside. The nearest road is buried under snow. The temperature drops below zero every night, and the only source of warmth, food, and survival is the man who controls all three.

Wren fights. She runs. The mountain breaks her and he carries her back.

As the weeks blur together and the search helicopters stop coming, the lines between captivity and shelter begin to dissolve. Between predator and protector. Between the woman she was and the creature the wilderness is turning her into.

He didn't rescue her. He claimed her. And the most terrifying part isn't the locked door or the frozen forest or the blood on his hands.
