Synopsis "Siddhartha: Special Edition"

In the novel, Siddhartha, a young man, leaves his family for a contemplative life, then, restless, discards it for one of the flesh. He conceives a son, but bored and sickened by lust and greed, moves on again. Near despair, Siddhartha comes to a river where he hears a unique sound. This sound signals the true beginning of his life - the beginning of suffering, rejection, peace, and, finally, wisdom. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Herman Hesse was born in 1877 in Calw. He followed professions as diverse as a clergyman and a mechanic, but with the publication of his first novel, Peter Camenzind (1904), he managed to establish himself as a writer. His literary work placed him among the most important authors of the 20th century. His most notable titles are: Demian (1919), Siddhartha (1922), Steppenwolf (1927), and The Glass Bead Game (1943). Among many other distinctions, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1946. He died in 1962, at the age of 85 in Montagnola.
