Synopsis "Summer 1979"

Fifteen year old Ashley believes life should come with at least one rule and that rule is this: If someone's mother must be committed to a mental institution, that mother should never find her next husband in said institution. The year is 1979 and disco is being murdered in the Chicago area. Rock music reigns. The song My Sharona is skyrocketing up the charts. Ashley, still a girl, walks into a park with a man on a warm summer night. Her sweet and innocent summer is changed from that point forward and this is just the beginning of her season of trauma. Unable to cope on her own, it's a good thing Ryan lives next door. He's the boy she's known since she was five, a boy she and her friends now consider a weirdo. He's also the boy who calls the police when screams arise from the other side of the paper thin wall that separates their beds. Yes, Ashley sleeps next to this weirdo every single night. Can a hot girl like Ashley be real friends with a weirdo like Ryan? Only the summer knows.
