The Phoenix Circus
Katherine Gilbert (Author) · Katherine Gilbert · Paperback
Ivy didn't think joining the circus would be easy--but no one mentioned having to give up her soul.
Ivy Suwan is still trying to get over the embarrassment of starring in #TrampFail for falling off a trampoline during the Olympic trials. Hoping for anonymity, the circus seems like a good place to start again.
But once she gets to The Phoenix Circus (known online as "The Cursed Circus"), nothing is normal. From Alexei Vasilev, the attractive but grumpy acrobat who's always a little too watchful, to an act with performing ghosts, her welcome is not what she expected. And then the circus's "Scottish Witch" gives her a very creepy warning about someone being after her "second soul."
Soon, Alexei is hanging around far too much and occasionally chastising her for not listening to her grandmother's superstitious warnings. But, once she discovers that she really does have a second soul inside her--and who it is--she starts to learn that keeping it safe will be much harder than she thought.
Because, somewhere among her new coworkers, someone is plotting. Now, along with getting used to circus life, Ivy has to be on guard, as Alexei teaches her about a magical world she doesn't want to believe is real. But, believe or not, something evil is coming for her, and, if she doesn't change her mind fast, it may not stop before it has her soul, as well.
The Phoenix Circus is a perfect introduction to the More in Heaven and Earth universe. Continuing readers will delight in visits from dozens of old friends, while new readers can easily enjoy the loads of quirky humor, romance, and suspense of this fun and gothic paranormal circus tale with a twist of mystery and no cliffhangers.
On a Katherine Gilbert wackiness scale of 1-to-10 sarcastic talking cats*, this one is a 7.
*Warning: Not all stories contain talking cats. Wackiness may take other forms.
The More in Heaven and Earth series is all set in the same magical universe filled with angels, witches, werewolves, demons, vampires, ghosts, and many other supernatural creatures. These intriguing tales can be read in any order or as stand-alones and will introduce the reader to a variety of fascinating characters throughout the many unique locales of this exciting world.
