Synopsis "Thule (in German)"

Im 4. Jahrhundert v. Chr. reiste der Handler und Geograph Pytheas als erster Grieche bis nach Britannien und noch sechs Tagesreisen weiter nach Norden bis zu der Insel Thule im Eismeer. Er beschreibt, dass aus dem Ort Abalon in der Nahe Bernstein stammt. Leider ist uns der originale Bericht des Pytheas nicht erhalten, sondern nur Exzerpte spaterer antiker Autoren. Redslos untersucht anhand der literarischen Quellen, der Geographie und auch anhand sprachwissenschaftlicher Interpretation der Ortsnamen die Frage, wo die Handelswege nach Nordeuropa verliefen, wo uberall Bernstein zu finden war und welches also das von Tacitus genannte Bernstein sammelnde Volk der Aestyrer sei, wo Pytheas Reiserouten verliefen und wo sich wohl die Insel Thule befunden hat. Sorgfaltig uberarbeiteter Nachdruck der Originalausgabe aus dem Jahr 1855.
