John le Carré, pseudonym of David John Moore Cornwell (1931–2020), was a British novelist known for redefining espionage literature. Before fully dedicating himself to writing, he worked for the British intelligence services MI5 and MI6 during the Cold War, an experience that deeply influenced his works.
