He installed a camera on her doorbell. Without asking. That's when Portia Vance knew this "security consultant" was going to be a problem. Portia runs the last independent bakery on a block three developers are circling like sharks, and she does not have time for a six-foot-three man in a tactical vest who shows up uninvited, reprograms her Wi-Fi "for her own good," and starts a chalkboard tally titled UNHINGED THINGS I HAVE DONE FOR HER RECENTLY that he updates in full view of customers. She definitely does not have time to notice that he smells like cedar and bad decisions. Kai Osei was hired to protect the block. He was not hired to fall for the woman who threatens to pepper-spray him on sight, keeps winning arguments he was sure he'd already won, and treats his very reasonable safety precautions like they're adorable instead of terrifying. He can't help it. She is the most competent, most infuriating, most impossible-not-to-love person he has ever met, and he is going to be honest about that in increasingly ridiculous ways whether she likes it or not. Then someone starts making the developers' threats look less like paperwork and more like danger, and Kai's protective instincts stop being funny and start being necessary - even as he can't stop being funny about it. Inside, you'll find: - A hero so possessive he color-codes his jealousy and keeps receipts, but never once raises his voice at the woman he loves - A heroine who will absolutely make him work for it, and who is nobody's damsel - A found family of bakers, best friends, and one extremely judgmental grandmother - Banter sharp enough to cut glass, and a real threat sharp enough to matter - A slow burn that turns into a bonfire, with the door closed at exactly the right moment - A grand gesture so unhinged it should not have worked, and absolutely did If you like your possessive heroes hilarious instead of scary, your heroines unbothered and unbowed, and your happily-ever-afters earned with equal parts danger and dumb jokes, Unhinged for Her is your next obsession.
