Synopsis "Venganza"

Una brecha en el corazón humano que permite atisbar las pesadillas ocultas.Una mujer que espera a que la atiendan en una pastelería desvela, conversando con otra clienta, su tragedia: va a comprar dos tartitas de fresas con nata para celebrar el cumpleaños de su hijo, un niño que, sin embargo, murió años atrás. Con este relato arranca este volumen compuesto por once cuentos entrelazados: en cada uno de ellos, un detalle a veces ínfimo evoca el relato anterior, anuncia el siguiente o cambia completamente la perspectiva, hasta formar una espiral vertiginosa. Los protagonistas no tienen, aparentemente, nada en común: dos alumnos de instituto, una novelista y su extraña casera, un joven que viaja al entierro de su madre adoptiva, dos trabajadoras de hospital, una cantante que encarga un bolso, una joven que trata de descubrir la infidelidad de su marido o una insistente mujer empeñada en seguir a un periodista que redacta un reportaje sobre un hotel de lujo. Sin embargo, poco a poco el lector vuelve a encontrárselos, para revelar un aspecto oculto del ser humano.

Yōko Ogawa was born in Okayama, Japan, in 1962. She is a Japanese writer known for her delicate and disturbing style, which explores memory, loss, and the deepest human emotions. She studied Literature at Waseda University and since 1988 has published more than fifty works of fiction and non-fiction.
Her literary career began with "Disintegration of the Butterfly" (1988), and she gained international recognition with novels such as "The Housekeeper and the Professor", "The Memory Police", "Revenge", "The Diving Pool", "Hotel Iris", and "The Girl Who Went to School on a Hippopotamus". Her work has been translated into more than twenty languages and has been adapted for film and theater.
Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards, including the Akutagawa Prize, the Yomiuri Prize, the Tanizaki Prize, and the Shirley Jackson Award. In 2020, "The Memory Police" was a finalist for the International Booker Prize.
