This book is an outcome of extensive research on voting behavior in a developing society like India. The project was conducted in the State of Orissa for the purpose of exploring the trends, patterns and dynamics of electoral politics at the regional level vis-à-vis the national mainstream. The main objective of the study was to identify the determinants of voting behavior by using a social survey conducted during the 13th General Elections in an Assembly segment of a parliamentary constituency. Nonetheless, it suggests for creating political awareness amongst the voters on the one hand and the change in attitude of political leaders on the other, apart from electoral reforms for strengthening the democratic system. Moreover, the findings of the study would provide an impetus for theory building.
