In der Dessauer Zuckerraffinerie wurde im Auftrag der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Schädlingsbekämpfung (Degesch) das Giftgas Zyklon B produziert. Damit ermordeten die deutschen Faschisten in den Konzentrationslagern Auschwitz, Majdanek, Sachsenhausen, Ravensbrück, Stutthof, Mauthausen und Neuengamme in den Jahren 1941 bis 1945 ca. 1 Millionen Menschen aus ganz Europa: Jüdinnen und Juden, Sinti und Roma, sowjetische Kriegsgefangene, politische und andere Verfolgte des Naziregimes. Das Buch beschreibt die Entwicklung des Produktes Zyklon B, seine Herstellung in der Dessauer Zuckerraffinerie, den Vertrieb und den Weg zum Instrument des Massenmordes. An eine Darstellung des faschistischen Umfeldes im Dessau der 1930er Jahre schlie t sich die Frage an: Was wusste die Dessauer Bevölkerung?
