No es ese sustrato de nuestra existencia en el que nos reconocemos, sino una falsa identidad que adoptamos en nuestro proceso de socialización precisamente para que, reflexionando sobre lo accesorio, no nos planteemos preguntas sobre lo verdadero. El ego es un envoltorio de nuestra conciencia y, a menos que nos liberemos de él, jamás llegaremos a conocernos. Al ser un engaño, el ego rehúye lo sencillo, pues lo delata; lo difícil sí es un reto para él, y lo imposible un reto de verdad. Así pues, cuanto mayor sea el reto que aceptemos, mayor será el ego que estamos construyendo en nosotros mismos: es nuestra ambición la que dará la medida de nuestro ego, que es también la medida de nuestro fracaso.

Osho (1931-1990), born as Chandra Mohan Jain in India, was a mystic and spiritual leader known for his teachings on meditation, awareness, and personal freedom. After studying philosophy and teaching at Jabalpur University, he began to spread his message through lectures and spiritual retreats. In the 1970s, he founded an ashram in Pune, which became a center of attraction for thousands of followers from around the world. His unconventional approach and criticisms of established religions generated both admiration and controversy.

Among his most notable works are Osho Zen Tarot: The Transcendental Game of Zen (1995), The Book of Ego: Freedom from Illusion (2001), Meditation: The First and Last Freedom (1997), and The Book of Man (2002), all within the spiritual essay genre. His legacy continues to influence self-awareness and personal development movements worldwide.
