quan el febrer de 1993 ens vam instal·lar a lanzarote, conservant sempre la casa de lisboa, els meus cunyats maría i javier, que hi vivien des de feia alguns anys, juntament amb luis i juanjo, acabats d`arribar, em van regalar un quadern que havia de servir de registre dels nostres dies canaris. només posaven una condició: que de tant en tant fes esment d`ells.mai no vaig escriure res en aquest quadern, però va ser així, i no d`altra manera, que van néixer els quaderns de lanzarote, que durant cinc anys veurien la llum. avui, sense esperar-m`ho, em trobo en una situació semblant. aquest cop, però, les causes motrius són pilar, sergio i javier, que s`ocupen del bloc. em van dir que m`havien reservat un espai al bloc i que hi he d`escriure, el que sigui, comentaris, reflexions, simples i opinions sobre això i allò, en fi, el que vingui a tomb. molt més disciplinat del que sovint semblo, els vaig respondre que sí, senyor, que ho faria sempre que no m`exigissin per a aquest quadern l`assiduïtat que m`havia imposat a mi mateix per als altres. per tant, pel que això pugui valer, compteu amb mi. josé saramago

José Saramago (Azinhaga, 1922-Tías, Lanzarote, 2010) is one of the most well-known and appreciated Portuguese writers worldwide. In Spain, since the first publication of The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis in 1985, his literary work received the best reception from readers and critics.
