Robert Ervin Howard nació el 22 de enero de 1906 en Peaster, Texas, Estados Unidos. Durante su infancia y juventud vivió principalmente en Cross Plains, donde desarrolló un gran interés por la literatura, la historia, el boxeo y las leyendas. Desde muy joven comenzó a escribir relatos y poemas, y en 1925 logró publicar uno de sus primeros cuentos en la revista Weird Tales.

Howard fue un escritor muy prolífico que cultivó diversos géneros, entre ellos la fantasía, el terror, la aventura, el western y la ficción histórica. Creó personajes como Solomon Kane, Kull de Atlantis, Bran Mak Morn y, especialmente, Conan el Bárbaro. Las historias de Conan, ambientadas en la ficticia Era Hiboria, combinaron aventuras, combates, magia y criaturas fantásticas. Estas obras contribuyeron al desarrollo del género conocido como espada y brujería.

A pesar de haber tenido una vida corta, Howard escribió una gran cantidad de cuentos y poemas. Su estilo influyó posteriormente en numerosos escritores y en diferentes medios, como el cine, los cómics y los videojuegos.

Robert E. Howard murió el 11 de junio de 1936 en Cross Plains, Texas, a los 30 años. Su obra continúa siendo reconocida como una importante influencia dentro de la literatura fantástica.

Robert Ervin Howard (Peaster, Texas, 1906 – Cross Plains, Texas, 1936) was an American writer whose influence on fantasy literature is profound and lasting. From a young age, he showed a great passion for history and reading, which led him to start writing stories at fifteen and to sell his first text at eighteen. He is widely recognized as one of the creators of the sword and sorcery subgenre, especially for his iconic character Conan the Barbarian, who debuted in 1932 and became a cultural symbol. Additionally, he created other memorable characters like Kull of Atlantis and Solomon Kane, who also transcended literature to reach cinema and comics. His life was marked by his mother's illness and family instability, which influenced his reserved nature and his work. He maintained a close friendship with H. P. Lovecraft, with whom he shared ideas about civilization and barbarism. Despite his success in Weird Tales magazine and his prolific output of over three hundred stories, he faced economic and personal difficulties, culminating in his suicide at thirty, following his mother's death.
