Era pleno invierno en la ciudad de New York, en donde las bajas temperaturas llegan facilmente a los quince o veinte grados Fahrenheit bajo cero, ese dia martes del mes de noviembre no fue una excepcion, estaba sumamente frio, el dia y la noche anterior habia nevado y por la madrugada habia empezado a caer lluvia la cual con las bajas temperaturas se iba congelando a medida que iba cayendo, las carreteras estaban resbalosas y por lo mas peligrosas, hay veces en que las carreteras quedan cubiertas de una fina capa de hielo conocida como hielo negro o hielo claro, el cual es bastante resbaladizo y practicamente imposible de divisar, siendo sumamente peligroso para los conductores.
