La Voragine, salida a la luz en 1925, es la unica novela escrita por el autor colombiano Jose Eustasio Rivera (1889-1928). Nadie como el ha sabido narrar la lucha entre el ser humano y la Naturaleza representada por la selva lujuriante. Se trata de una obra de denuncia de las miserias fisicas y morales del mundo de los caucheros, increible reducto de la vida colombiana donde aun prevalecian las mas atroces e inhumanas leyes de la esclavitud. En muchos aspectos la novela continua siendo de palpitante actualidad.

(Colombia, 1889 - New York, 1928). Master and PhD in Law from the National University of Bogotá in 1917. He served as a deputy and government inspector in the oil fields and the border delimitation commission between his country and Venezuela. His work with the jungle inspired him in the creation of his works, among them the most recognized La Vorágine, which makes Rivera a classic of pre-magical realist narrative, to the point of being considered by many as the great novel of the Latin American jungle. He also published the book of sonnets Tierra de promisión.
