Borderline between detective novel and an adventure novel, El fin de la locura is a witty and passionate novel full of ideas which chronicles the journey of Anibal Quevedo, psychoanalyst and Mexican drifter. His story starts in Paris in May of 1968 and goes on for over 20 years throughout different countries until he returns to a Mexico where neoliberalism has won.

Jorge Volpi (Mexico, 1968) is the author of the novels La paz de los sepulcros and El temperamento melancólico. With En busca de Klingsor (Biblioteca Breve and Deux Océans-Grinzane Cavour awards) he began a “Twentieth Century Trilogy”, the following parts of which are El fin de la locura and No será la Tierra. He has also written the short novels collected in the volume Días de ira, as well as Sanar tu piel amarga, El jardín devastado and Oscuro bosque oscuro. He is the author of the essays La imaginación y el poder, La guerra y las palabras, Mentiras contagiosas (Mazatán Award for the best book of the year 2008), El insomnio de Bolívar (Debate-Casa de América Award, 2009) and Leer la mente. In 2009, he received the José Donoso Award from Chile for his entire body of work. He has been a professor at Emory, Cornell, Las Américas de Puebla, Pau, Catholic University of Chile, National Autonomous University of Mexico, and Princeton. He has been a fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation and a member of the National System of Creators of Mexico. He has been decorated as a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of France and with the Order of Isabel la Católica of Spain. He contributes to various newspapers and the magazine The Nation. His books have been translated into twenty-five languages.
